Cherries, Cherries and More Cherries...


Do you all love cherries?
We do!
And, boy howdy have we been picking Cherries!
And Cherries!
And more Cherries!


We picked about a total of 50 some cups of Cherries!
Wow, right?!
It was a fun and sticky mess...


So, I got out my ol' water bath canner, my supplies for canning
and I canned some Cherry Syrup and Cherry Jelly!

Have any of you canned syrups or jellies before?
It is so much fun!!!
I LOVE CANNING!!!!!!!


Cherry Syrup
(This is my hubby and oldest sons favorite!)

First, you will have to boil down the cherries with about 3 c. water,
continue to boil until there isn't much of a cherry left
(it will look like mush with seeds)
strain your fruit in a mesh strainer or a cheese cloth to get all the juices out
I used about 8-10 cups of washed cherries.

3 c. prepared juice
3 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
3 Tbsp. lemon juice

Bring your water bath canner to a boil. 
*Do this step first, because it takes forever to come to a boil.*

Wash your jars and place them on a cookie sheet
 in a warm oven to keep till you are ready to start your canning.

Combine in a large pot and bring to a rolling boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and skim off the foam.  
Pour your syrup into sterilized hot jars. 
Wipe around the rim of your jars with a damp cloth.
Place on your lid and ring and lightly turn it.
Place in your boiling water bath canner.
Process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes.
Makes 5-6 pint jars.

Never put a cool jar into a boiling hot water canner, 
the jars will break!

Amy,
Your cherry syrup looks wonderful. I can just imagine it over french toast, pancakes and crepes...mmmmm. I have made strawberry syrup, but not cherry; can't wait to try it. We got cherries on our little cherry tree this year (first year it has produced), which was a joy to us; the grasshoppers have littlerly eaten down our apple and plum trees; we have two that are half bare at the bottom, and okay on the top, and two more that look dead because the leaves are all eaten. But the Cherry tree has not been touched by the grasshoppers... so happy about that. I think I will have to go get another one of those trees, its done so well. Cherry jam is one of my very favorites.

Hi Amy! You have been busy! The photos look so vibrant, what amazing color. Do you grow cherries, or did you go pick them somewhere?

Isn't it fun to make something you know your family will enjoy? Especially if it's a favorite. You'll really appreciate this when it's cold and drab outside too.
