Teach them to Cook...

Good Day!! How is your week treating you?

We are doing good here. Enjoying the warmth of the days
and trying to get outside when the wind isn't blowing.
Which...some days that is a challenge!

The weather is suppose to be in the high 70's
and then low 80's with wind...oh goody!  I can hardly wait!
(enter sarcasm here)

So, on days that the wind blows you to Kansas,
I try to find things to catch up on in the house
or I like to bake.

I love it when I find my helpers wanting
to bake or cook along side me.
I find great joy in it!

I'll let them create a special treat for the family to try
and sometimes we judge the meal or treat
for some good ol' fashion fun!
(like being on Chopped)
We  I watch a lot of cooking shows and of course
 the kids baking shows.
I love that there are kids that love to create through baking.

We've got to get inspired somehow....

Awhile back, I showed the boys how to make crepes.
We did a lot of laughing as we were trying
to master the flipping of the crepes.

Each one of them tried their hardest to
flip it without it landing on the floor.

Some, well....never made it back to the pan...

And others were airborne!

After many flips and flops,
we managed to get several made.

I must admit to you, that my oldest son
is now a pro at making crepes.
When he wants crepes, he makes them.
I gladly gave up that job,
They are a lot of work!
(Wink inserted here)

And after it's all said and done,
we spent time together creating something yummy
and making special memories!!

I think it's very important to teach our children how to
cook and to clean. We are giving them such a gift
that they can and will use daily!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I love the time spent with my boys.
I love to see the spark of creativity in them.

And oh boy, have I eaten some interesting food concoctions...
But, I wouldn't change any of it for anything!

Do your children like to cook in the kitchen with you?

I hope you all have a great week!

Thanks so much for stopping by...

Hello There!

Hello Dearies...
It's been awhile since I've been on the ol' computer!

I'm not sure where the Summer went
but it went flying by...

We were very busy this Summer.
Lot's of camping, family came and went,
more camping, celebrating 4th of July,
celebrating my youngest sons birthday,
enjoying a weekend getaway with just my hubby
and now I am trying to get back into
the swing of school with the boys.

My oldest son is taking a new journey to finish out
the few classes he needs to graduate.
He'll still be doing school at home,
but will be doing everything on the computer
versus everything on paper.
And he'll be starting college classes in the Spring
to get a welding degree!!

So exciting!!

I can't wait to see what God has in
store for this school year!

Lot's of exciting new things.
Lot's of new things to learn.

How has your Summer been treating you?

Anything new you'd like to share?

I really don't have much to say,
for some reason I just can't seem to
get back into the groove of blogging.

So, if I'm away for a bit longer,
just know it's because I have writers block. Ha!

Thanks for stopping in and staying with me.

Until I write again...

Happy August!!

Mushroom Hunting Adventures...

Have you ever been mushroom hunting?

If you haven't, you should!!
It is a fun adventure to go on.

We just happened upon a group of people in the mountains
while camping a few years ago that were
 digging up mushrooms.
My hubby stopped and chatted with a couple about
all the ends and outs of hunting mushrooms.

I guess it's quite the sport!!

They told us which ones were safe to
eat and what to look for.

So...off we went...

These mushrooms above with the reddish brown tops
are a safe and yummy one to eat.
Kinda like a button mushroom.

These ones are pretty, but not edible!

Here's my youngest, using a knife
to pop one out of the ground.
Mushrooms live in a cool, damp and dark climate.
After all they are a fungus!

We ended up finding a huge
 pillowcase full of mushrooms!

Once we got home, we sliced and dehydrated some of them
and the others we sauteed and enjoyed!!

My little monkey was so proud
of the mushroom he found!

And some of the mushrooms were quite large!

What a fun day in the woods!

Do you live close to any mountains?

If you've never mushroom hunted
before I recommend you go and purchase
 a mushroom identifying book.

The one we purchased showed
which ones are safe to eat
and what they look like.

 I know we compared each
mushroom before we plucked it out of the ground.

I mean...sheesh....
wouldn't want to make anyone sick!

Happy Hunting Friends...

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Spring Snow And...

Look...we got snow!

First it rained and rained
and then it turned to a wet snow...

This is my view for today...

It's so pretty!

As you can see from the picture above,
the snow is still falling...
Beautiful little speckles of wet fluffy snow...

We prayed for moisture and boy howdy
did God deliver!
I think it wipes that drought word right off the map!
(Smiles)

This photo was taking from my bedroom window
and as you can see here, we have a rather
large pond of standing water.
That is from all the rain,
 from before the snow.

I just think it's amazing really!
God is so good to us!

Yes, there will be mud,
 but I'm prepared!

I'd rather have mud than
blowing dirt any ol' day!

So, today...
I will continue to thank God for the moisture.
Praise Him for the mud to come.
(chuckles)

Make some snow ice cream with my boys!

Build a snowman.

Bake something sweet.

Read a good book.

Maybe watch a sweet movie.

And just enjoy the warmth of my home!

We are all so very blessed!

What are you all doing today?

Thanks so much for stopping by...

Hugs to you,

Knowledge...

I love books!
I have learned so much from them!
Reading is a lifelong interest to me.

I own so many books, some that I have read
over and over again
and some are just waiting to be opened.

By reading so much over the years,
 I have now gained knowledge.
Knowledge is good and helpful when it
 applies to situations in life.
But, some knowledge isn't good knowledge to have.

When you look at the bible, there is enough
knowledge in there to keep me busy forever!

While studying the bible, I have learned to have
a good understanding of its principles,
I often find that my knowledge has failed me
when its time to turn what I know into action.

Knowledge must travel from your mind all the way
down into your heart to be truly useful.

Watch your actions and reactions to
see if this is happening in your life.

When our kids irritate us, do we snap
at them or speak a sharp word?
Or do you stop and wait to respond?

If their chores aren't done well and on time,
how do you react?

Do you find the way you act in your home
different than the way you act in church?

Head knowledge is pretty easy to teach your children.
Give them books.
Make some assignments.
They will either get it or they don't!

Heart knowledge is a little more difficult in instill in our children.
But this knowledge is the best by far.
One way to evaluate heart knowledge is to
watch how you treat each other.
Are they polite to others?
Do they follow rules?

It is vital that we make sure that our children not only
know what is right but they do what is right.

We must raise our children of godly character,
not children that are merely filled with facts.

Head knowledge without heartfelt
action is just plain useless!

Knowledge becomes real when we use it!

Teaching our children in such a way is that they know
how to use what they know for the Glory of God.

It humbles me to realize that when I know to do good,
but don't do it, I sin.
I want my children to learn this, too.

Where does your knowledge come from?
In your head or in your heart?

Have a delightful day!!

In His Grace,

Creativity...

Do you like to color?
How about drawing?

My middle son loves to color!

He colors pictures for the residents
at my hubby's work.
(My hubby works at an Assisted Living Home.)

My son, loves to bring a smile to someone's face
and he even has a pen pal that he writes, draws
and colors her many pictures!

It's amazing to see and hear from the residents
when they have received one of my sons coloring pages.

He loves to color animals and of course anything outdoors!

The animals have to look realistic or forget it!
Ha!

A few years back my oldest did a Drawing through History course
and he learned to draw (and color) a viking boat.
I was so proud of him, for this course pushed him
to think outside the boat,I mean box!
(Smiles)

My youngest loves to give me little notes
and pictures that he drew.
Sometimes it will be a heart with us holding hands
or doggies like these above.

I will cherish these!

I love that it sparks creativity in my children!

At least twice a week, I'll have them set down and color
or draw something that goes with their lessons.

This is more for my two little guys!
The oldest, not so much...

Some days, I'll even set down and color with them!
I think it's relaxing!

Plus, these are special treasures that I save...

This sign hangs above our coat rack.
I think it's a true statement!

Bring on the Creativity! Have a colorful week!

Hugs & Blessings,

Breakfast Time...

Waffles! Yummy delicious Waffles!

I make A LOT of Waffles!

Add on the butter and top with syrup
why YES PLEASE!

Now we all know why waffles
have little pockets, right?

Bring on any kind of topping and yes, just dig right in.

You can make your waffles any way you want
and then top them with just about anything.

Here's some ideas that might motivate or
spark your creativity while preparing breakfast.

I've mixed in fruit to the batter:
Blueberries
Strawberries
Raspberries
Currants

Chocolate Chips
Oatmeal
Bacon Crumbles

And of course I've topped them with:
Maple Syrup
Homemade Cherry Syrup
Homemade Mulberry Syrup
Peanut or Almond Butter
Cinnamon and Sugar
Powdered Sugar
Fresh Fruit

Really the list of possibilities are endless...

What's your favorite way to eat waffles?

I've got another busy week planned here!!
I hope you all have a splendid week!

Thanks for stopping by...

Did I make you hungry??

Blueberry Lemon Pie...

Hello Friends!

How are you all doing?  How is August treating you?
It's been really hot here!
We have had company off and on all last week,
so I am feeling a bit tired and on the
constant go for one thing or another.

I am ready for some normalcy...
But, I think I might need to wait on that
for I have another few busy weeks ahead!

So, this here pie is something that my youngest son created.
He is only 8 years old!

It's a blueberry lemon pie!

And, believe it or not it tasted really good.

We first started off by making a graham cracker crust
Then he made a instant lemon pudding
Layered with fresh blueberries
And topped it with some homemade whipped cream
Then decorated the top with more blueberries

Didn't he do a great job?
Now if only you could have tasted it...
The combination of lemon and blueberries worked
and he didn't try to add in some strange fruits or veggies!

Because he has done that before!
(Smiles)

I've been the taste tester for many of his creations
and I gave him an A+!

He can also cook his own eggs
He makes Ramen Noodles like they are going out of style
and well...he just loves to cook with me!

And I just Love that he Loves being in the kitchen with me
creating memories and enjoying each others company!

Isn't that what life is all about??

Do you let your kids cook/bake with you in the kitchen?

What's the best thing your child has made?

I just LOVE all the memories that have been created
throughout the years!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and see me!

HUGS!

A Few Photos For You...

Good Day to You!

I wanted to share a few random photos
that my 9 year old son took.
He is learning how to use a camera
and I think he is doing a great job at
focusing on each shot he's captured.

I hope you enjoy!!

He loves his chickens...
(He actually goes in and pets them)

This was before the prairie turned green...

He loves birds!

Daisy giving Joe a kiss...
